Restoring Family Links (RFL)

Background:

RFL services have been provided in Bangladesh since the liberation war of 1971. In January 1976, the tracing agency was handed over to the newly created Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS). From 1976 to 1997 BDRCS managed alone RFL activities with very limited support from ICRC. From 1997 the ICRC started providing BDRCS with regular supporting with delegates from New Delhi and, since 2006 with ICRC protection office based in the delegation of Dhaka reopened the same year. RFL is one of the movement core activities which have been maintained regularly. BDRCS RFL department has strong network in country with RFL team available in all 68 Units/Branches and active member of worldwide International Tracing Network.

  • Re-establishing communications between families:
  • Phone call services
  • Red Cross Messages (RCM)
  • Safe and well messages, salamat etc…
  • Tracing of persons by Tracing Request (TR)
  • Registration of un accompanied children for tracing purposes
  • Family reunification
  • RFL services in Detention
  • Pre departure session conduct in Technical Training Centre.
  • Awareness film show disseminate in the migration and disuster prone area.
  • Awareness session conduct among the high school level students for prevent the illegal migration.
