The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), with the support from the European Union (EU) and technical support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the Danish Red Cross, and the Swedish Red Cross, is implementing the Pathways to Healing (P2H) project to support around 8,000 people affected by the July 2024 mass uprising across 16 districts of Bangladesh.
As part of the initiative, BDRCS has launched the first phase of livelihood support to help restore livelihoods and strengthen self-reliance.
After completing livelihood skills training and developing business plans based on their chosen income-generating activities, 26 injured survivors received conditional cash grants of BDT 35,000 each to start or strengthen their businesses. Subject to satisfactory progress of their business plans, each will receive a further BDT 25,000, bringing the total livelihood support to BDT 60,000 per beneficiary. Overall, 688 injured survivors will receive this support through phased implementation.
“Our goal is not only to provide financial assistance but to help survivors regain their confidence and self-reliance. Through collective humanitarian efforts, we can support people in rebuilding their lives with hope,” said Barrister Md. Abdus Salam, Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
Beyond livelihood support, the project also provides medical care, physiotherapy, mental health and psychosocial support, skills training, and community-based first aid and mental health training to strengthen resilience in affected communities.
Together, we are helping people rebuild livelihoods, restore confidence, and move forward with dignity and hope.
