Dhaka 22 July 2026: The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh has contributed USD 100,000 to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to strengthen its emergency response for communities affected by the recent floods and landslides across the country.
The humanitarian contribution was officially handed over by H.E. Mr. Yao Wen, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Bangladesh, to Barrister Md. Abdus Salam, Chairman of BDRCS, at a ceremony held at the BDRCS National Headquarters in Dhaka.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Yao Wen said:
“The recent heavy rains in Bangladesh have triggered devastating floods, claiming lives, affecting millions of people, and causing widespread damage to farmland and infrastructure. The Chinese people deeply sympathize with the people of Bangladesh. On behalf of the Red Cross Society of China, we are pleased to provide USD 100,000 in emergency assistance to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. This contribution reflects the solidarity and sincere concern of the Chinese Government and people for Bangladesh. China will continue to stand with Bangladesh by supporting its disaster response, strengthening disaster preparedness, and providing training for Red Crescent volunteers.”
Expressing his gratitude, Barrister Md. Abdus Salam, Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, said:
“We sincerely thank the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China and the Red Cross Society of China for standing beside Bangladesh during this difficult time. Our dedicated volunteers are already responding in some of the hardest-hit and most remote areas. This generous support will enable us to expand our emergency response by providing food assistance, safe drinking water, temporary shelter, hygiene kits, and medical services to flood and landslide-affected communities. We assure our partners that every dollar of this contribution will be utilized efficiently, transparently, and where it is needed most.”
During the programme, BDRCS presented an update on its emergency response activities as of 21 July, highlighting:

🔹 2,500+ emergency food packages distributed
🔹 22,000+ people evacuated and rescued
🔹 2,000+ people provided with medical assistance
🔹 37,000+ litres of safe drinking water distributed
🔹 12 Red Crescent Units engaged in the response
🔹 3,500+ volunteers mobilized across flood-affected communities

The programme was attended by Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Kabir, Vice Chairman of BDRCS; Dr. Abu Md. Mofakhkharul Islam Rana, Treasurer; Dr. Kabir Md. Ashraf Alam, ndc, Secretary General of BDRCS; senior officials of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC); officials from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China; representatives of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; and other distinguished guests.
