Workshop on Shock Responsive Social Protection in AA

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, collaboratively with the Government of Bangladesh, CARE Bangladesh, ACTION CONTRE LA FAIM (ACF), and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), organized the “Consultative Workshop on Shock Responsive Social Protection in Anticipatory Action” at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel. The honorable state minister of Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) Mr. Md. Mohibbur Rahman, MP inaugurated the workshop as chief guest. Mr. Md. Kamrul Hasan, Secretary of MoDMR, Mr. Md. Mijanur Rahman, Department of Disaster Management, Ms. Anna Orlandini, Head of Office, EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid -DGECHO Bangladesh were also present at the workshop.
Mr. Sultan Ahmed, Deputy Secretary General, attended the opening ceremony as a special guest and highlighted BDRCS Anticipatory Actions (AA) and initiatives in line with the shock-responsive social protection program. To explore the opportunities, to integrate AA within the social protection frameworks and to act ahead of the impact of climate and disaster risks and validate the findings, the participants engaged in panel discussions prior to technical sessions from each partner, highlighting their respective findings. The BDRCS is considered the frontrunner in AA initiatives, with support from the GRC. Since 2015, BDRCS, along with fellow partners, has been engaged in anticipatory action, and today’s session marks a step ahead at the advocacy level to improve the social safety net program for vulnerable communities due to adverse climate and disaster risks.
