Due to continuous rains in India’s Meghalaya and Asham, the onrush of upstream hilly waters and in-country rains, made rivers in Sylhet and Sunamganj breached the danger mark and inundated the low-lying areas, including the cities. Mainly, several places of the 3 districts (Sylhet, Sunamganj and Moulvibazar) in the northeastern region of Bangladesh are inundated, and Sylhet and Sunamganj districts are affected severely – affected more than 1.8 million people. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has been active on the ground from day one, and the local branch staff and Red Crescent Youth (RCY) volunteers are providing necessary humanitarian support to the affected communities in Sylhet and Sunamganj.
