Road Safety Awareness Campaign by BDRCS

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS) conducted a 4-day campaign from April 4 to April 7, 2024, before the Eid festival to raise awareness among various professionals, including those returning home, transport owners and workers, and drivers, about Road Safety Issues, and to initiate a social movement for the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive Road Safety Law in Bangladesh. Globally, 2 people die every minute, 3,200 people die every day, and approximately 1.19 million people die each year in road crashes. Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5–29 years. Two-thirds of road traffic fatalities occur among people of working age (18–59 years) [source: World Health Organization].
On the occasion of Eid, many people go to their native village houses to celebrate Eid with their relatives, and this rush increases the possibility of road accidents. Therefore, like every year, BDRCS’s first aid team and emergency service team provided assistance to these homebound people who are at risk, especially children, the elderly, women, the physically disabled, the sick, and accident victims, in the busiest areas of the capital. BDRCS believes that formulating and implementing a comprehensive Road Safety Law in Bangladesh can save lives on the road.
