RCRC Statutory Meeting 2024

On 22 October 2024, the Statutory Meeting of Red Cross Red Crescent kicks off at Geneva, Switzerland. These include:

24th Session of the General Assembly of IFRC
The 24th session of the General Assembly will bring together 191 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to discuss and determine the IFRC’s priorities for the next two years. They will approve policies and tools to guide National Societies in their daily humanitarian work. Key elements such as trust and integrity, localization, volunteering and investing in National Societies have guided the preparations for the  Statutory Meetings, which will provide an opportunity to discuss how we can remain relevant as an organization.
 
The Council of Delegate
The Council of Delegates of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement gathers together all the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the ICRC and the IFRC) to discuss matters concerning the Movement as a whole.
 
The Council of Delegates sets common strategies and ensures alignment within the Movement on approaches to global humanitarian issues. It contributes to strengthening cooperation and fostering relationships among the members.When it is held in an International Conference year, the Council of Delegates precedes the International Conference and proposes the Conference’s officers and adopts its agenda.
 
34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent
The International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent is the supreme deliberative body of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (the Movement), where the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions come together with the components of the Movement to discuss key matters of humanitarian concern and to make joint commitments.
 
It is a unique non-political forum in which the Movement components have the same voice as States.
The International Conference aims to:
–   contribute to respect for and development of international humanitarian law (IHL)
–  improve the safety, security and dignity of individuals by strengthening legal frameworks and policies
–  shape the global humanitarian agenda
–  foster relationships, alliances and synergies.
 
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS) delegation lead by the Hon’ble Chairman Major General (Rtd.) Md. Rafiqul Islam has attended the statutory meeting along with BDRCS Secretary General Dr. Kabir M. Ashraf Alam ndc, Deputy Secretary General Sultan Ahmed and Areefa Mehra Sinha, Director, IR and Communications.
 
The 24th session of the General Assembly will bring together 191 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to discuss and determine the IFRC’s priorities for the next two years. They will approve policies and tools to guide National Societies in their daily humanitarian work. Key elements such as trust and integrity, localization, volunteering and investing in National Societies have guided the preparations for the Statutory Meetings, which will provide an opportunity to discuss how we can remain relevant as an organization. BDRCS will be participating actively in these three major events and and side events.
