COVID-19 Kits Handed Over to DGHS

A significant milestone as Ambassador IWAMA Kiminori graciously handed over COVID-19 testing kits to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Stockpile Project. Supported by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), this initiative is made possible through the generous funding from the Government of Japan through Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF).

Government of Japan has allocated USD 1.8 million to enhance preparedness and response capacities for COVID-19 and other Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID). This support will enable us to procure, store, and swiftly deploy critical medical resources during public health emergencies in Bangladesh.

Under the project titled ‘Strengthening Preparedness and Response to the COVID-19 and Other Emerging Infections Diseases’, a total of 17,500 testing kits were handed over today, aiming to reach at least 17,500 Bangladeshi people.

Ambassador IWAMA expressed his optimism that this support will significantly enhance the capacity of the health sector in Bangladesh. The handover ceremony held at DGHS, Dhaka, witnessed the presence of esteemed individuals including Mr. Kazi Shofiqul Azam, Secretary General of BDRCS, Mr. Alberto Bocanegra, Head of Delegation of IFRC, Prof. Dr. Meerjady Sabrina Flora, Additional Director General (Planning & Development) of DGHS, and Professor Dr. Ahmedul Kabir, Additional Director General (Admin) of DGHS, among others.

This collaboration exemplifies the power of partnership in safeguarding public health. Together, let’s continue our efforts to strengthen health resilience and protect our communities.
