On 21 November 2025, a powerful Moderate level earthquake was felt in Dhaka and parts of Bangladesh. the intensity and violent shaking experienced in Dhaka were among the strongest in Bangladesh’s recent history. According to media reports, the tremor was felt around 10:38 AM in Dhaka. According to Reuters, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) placed the earthquake at magnitude 5.7, The shaking lasted for 26 seconds with its epicentre near Madhabdi, Narsingdi, approximately 7.2 km from Ghorashal, Narsingdi, about 40 km from Dhaka, at a depth of ~10 km (Reuters).
The tremor was felt widely across the country, including Dhaka, Narayanganj, Chandpur, Sirajganj, Sitakunda, Nilphamari, Bogura, Barishal, Patuakhali, and Moulvibazar, as well as in Kolkata and parts of West Bengal, India. Some old and makeshift structures collapsed, and people evacuated buildings out of fear. It is also reported that cracks have appeared on some buildings, and some are slightly tilted. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) mobilizes more than 200 of its Red Crescent Youth (RCY) volunteers and staff to assess the situation and support the affected people.
