BDRCS SitRep-4 SouthEastern Flood August 2024

The recent floods in southeastern Bangladesh have left a significant impact on people across 11 districts1. The sudden onset, scale and intensity affected more than 5.8 million people. According to the National Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NDRCC) report dated 3 September 2024, 71 fatalities (male-45, female-07, children-19) were recorded. Still, 582,155 families are stranded with the flood water. 4,003 shelters have been set up, accommodating 540,510 people and 39,531 livestock.

Since the first day of the flood response (21 August 2024), the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has mobilised its volunteers in the impacted areas. They have been constantly helping the afflicted families on the ground. Over 1,600 Red Crescent Youths (RCY) and 100 BDRCS staff participated in the flood relief effort.
