Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS) is collaborating with the Avoidable Deaths Network in Bangladesh through BDRCS Urban Resilience Building through Advanced Networking, Coordination, Knowledge & Innovation Project (known as the UDRR Project), with support from Deutsches Rotes Kreuz.
BDRCS organized this year’s commemoration of the International Awareness Day for Avoidable Deaths (IAD4AD) in Bangladesh through contributing to the National Seminar on Avoidable Disaster Deaths, held in the University of Dhaka on 9th March 2024, along with sharing BDRCS’ valuable insights from working in disaster risk reduction and management in the panel discussions. Mr. Shahjahan Saju, AD- PC from BDRCS along with Ms. Ana Villa Mariquina, Project Delegate and Ms. Nusrat Zahan, Officer from the German Red Cross Bangladesh joined this event. Hon’ble Director General, Department of Disaster Management (DDM), Mr. Md. Mijanur Rahman blessed the event with his kind presence and highlighted the BD government’s key initiatives in avoiding all sorts of disaster deaths in the country. Mr. Netai Dey Sarker, Director- MIM, DDM, was also present at this seminar.
The Avoidable Deaths Network (ADN) is a potent, inclusive, and innovative global network committed to avoiding human deaths from natural & naturally- triggered technological hazards and human-made disasters in low- and middle-income countries. With the slogan, “Disaster Deaths are Avoidable”, this dynamic network has been actively contributing to effectively raising awareness, advocating for change, and ultimately saving lives across the world and posing upon a meaningful impact all over.
