Considering the on-going cold wave, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) launched nationwide blanket distribution programme to reduce cold-related risks among vulnerable populations with the support of partners including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), American Red Cross, British Red Cross, Danish Red Cross, Qatar Red Crescent Society, Swiss Red Cross and Comic Relief.
As of January, 25,000 blankets have been dispatched to 44 district units. So far, distribution of 10,520 blankets has been completed in 20 districts—fully completed in 12 districts and partially completed in 8 districts. Twenty-four district units (covering 9,700 blankets) are yet to receive their allocation out of a total of 68 district units.
