Turkish Red Crescent President visits in Bangladesh to

Dhaka, Bangladesh | 22 June 2026: The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is pleased to announce the arrival of the President of the Turkish Red Crescent, Prof. Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz, in Bangladesh for an official visit from 22–24 June 2026.

Monday morning the President of the Turkish Red Crescent met with the Honorable State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, to discuss ongoing humanitarian cooperation and future collaboration between the two countries.

The Turkish Red Crescent President sated, “The Turkish Red Crescent remains committed to supporting the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and working with the Government of Bangladesh to strengthen resilience and support vulnerable communities.”

Honorable state minister also appreciated the partnership and support of the Turkish Government. She said, ‘To address the humanitarian situation effectively, together with our humanitarian partners, we must focus on two key solutions including Continued support for the Rohingya community and the safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation of the Rohingya people.”

During this time BDRCS secretary general Dr. Kabir M. Ashraf Alam mentioned, “For over a decade, the Turkish Red Crescent has stood beside us – especially in Cox’s Bazar, where their support has reached hundreds of thousands of displaced people. Today’s meeting with the Honorable State Minister for Foreign Affairs reflects this strong bond between our two societies, and our shared commitment to the work ahead.”

During the visit, Prof. Dr. Yılmaz will engage in a series of high-level meetings and programme visits aimed at further strengthening the long-standing humanitarian partnership between the Turkish Red Crescent and the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.

The visiting Turkish Red Crescent President and delegation will also visit the headquarters of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, where she will participate in a signing ceremony of the Project Funding Agreement (PFA) for the “Green Cash Ready Project” between BDRCS and the Turkish Red Crescent.

Following the signing ceremony, she will hold a meeting with Directors of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and Partner National Societies to exchange views on humanitarian priorities and coordination within the Movement.

On 23 June, Prof. Dr. Yılmaz will travel to Cox’s Bazar to visit ongoing humanitarian programmes supporting Rohingya refugees and host communities. During the field visit, she will interact with affected communities, volunteers, and humanitarian workers, and observe the impact of ongoing relief and resilience-building interventions.
