PMO Operational Update Mar’26

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), through its Population Movement Operation (PMO), continues to deliver lifesaving and dignity-driven humanitarian assistance to displaced Myanmar community staying in Cox’s Bazar Camps—one of the world’s most protracted humanitarian crises.
In addition to supporting displaced populations across 33 camps, the operation also extends critical services to the affected local host communities, recognizing the compounded pressures on local resources and social systems. This response is implemented in close coordination with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and eight Partner National Societies, ensuring integrated, multi-sectoral, and principled humanitarian service delivery.
As of March 2026, an estimated 1.18 million displaced people remain dependent on sustained humanitarian assistance. However, the operational environment is becoming increasingly constrained. The 2026 Joint Response Plan (JRP), appealing for USD 710 million, remains significantly underfunded, with IFRC facing a critical funding gap of approximately 70 percent. At the same time, heightened security risks and access limitations are further challenging the continuity, reach, and quality of essential services.
Despite these constraints, BDRCS—through PMO implementation with IFRC support—reached 154,594 individuals in March 2026 across both camp settings and host communities. Key interventions focused on maintaining access to essential services, strengthening community resilience, and upholding protection standards, particularly for the most vulnerable groups.
Amid evolving risks and resource limitations, BDRCS remains steadfast in its commitment to principled humanitarian action. The operation continues to prioritize protection, community engagement, and resilience-building, ensuring that assistance is not only essential but also respectful of the dignity, rights, and aspirations of both displaced and host communities.
