The global landscape is witnessing an alarming escalation in humanitarian crises, driven by a number of factors including the heightened frequency and intensity of natural disasters, escalating conflicts, protracted wars, mass migration, violence, and the forced displacement or relocation of populations. This intensifying crisis necessitates a robust and multifaceted response.
Recognizing the urgent need to address these challenges, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is committed to prioritizing humanitarian interventions. By meticulously identifying the most vulnerable areas and populations, the BDRCS implements timely and impactful projects and activities designed to alleviate suffering and foster resilience.
Bangladesh, due to its unique geographical positioning, is exceptionally susceptible to the adverse effects of climate change. Consequently, the BDRCS prioritizes programs that aim to mitigate climate change impacts and facilitate adaptation to evolving environmental conditions. These initiatives are crucial for safeguarding lives and livelihoods, with a particular emphasis on developing sustainable strategies and alternative livelihood measures to ensure long-term survival.
Furthermore, the BDRCS delivers a comprehensive range of essential services, including disaster preparedness initiatives, pre- and post-disaster health services, maternal and child healthcare, eye care, the collection and distribution of safe blood, and co-educational and training programs.
As an auxiliary organization of the Government of Bangladesh, the BDRCS is dedicated to providing comprehensive welfare services to those facing humanitarian emergencies. We are committed to extending every possible form of assistance to affected individuals and communities, striving to mitigate the impact of both natural and man-made disasters. We are deeply grateful for the continuous financial and technical support that enables our vital work and especially acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and our Partner National Societies. সাম্প্রতিক বছরগুলোতে প্রাকৃতিক বিপর্যয়, দুর্যোগ-ঝুঁকি বৃদ্ধি ছাড়াও বিশ্বজুড়ে সংঘাত, যুদ্ধ, অভিবাসন, সহিংসতা, বলপূর্বক বাস্তচ্যুত বা স্থানান্তর ও দেশত্যাগ আশংকাজনকভাবে বেড়েই চলেছে। ফলে মানবিক সংকট ক্রমান্বয়ে তীব্রতর হচ্ছে। মানবিক সংকটকে অধিক গুরুত্ব দিয়ে সর্বাধিক বিপদাপন্ন এলাকা ও জনগোষ্ঠীকে চিহ্নিত করে সময়োপযোগী বিভিন্ন প্রকল্প ও কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করছে বাংলাদেশ রেড ক্রিসেন্ট সোসাইটি।
ভৌগলিক অবস্থানের কারণে বাংলাদেশ জলবায়ুর পরিবর্তনের প্রভাবে সর্বাধিক ঝুঁকিতে থাকা দেশগুলোর মধ্যে একটি। এই বাস্তবতা বিবেচনায়, বিডিআরসিএস জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের প্রভাব হ্রাস এবং পরিবর্তিত পরিবেশের সাথে খাপ খাওয়ানোর জন্য অভিযোজনমূলক কার্যক্রমকে অগ্রাধিকার দিচ্ছে। জীবন ও জীবিকা সুরক্ষায় এই উদ্যোগগুলো অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, যা দীর্ঘমেয়াদে টিকে থাকার জন্য টেকসই কৌশল ও বিকল্প জীবিকার ব্যবস্থা গড়ে তুলতে সহায়তা করছে। এছাড়াও বিডিআরসিএস দুর্যোগ প্রস্তুতি, দুর্যোগ পূর্ব ও পরবর্তী স্বাস্থ্যসেবা, প্রসূতী মায়ের পরিচর্যা ও শিশুস্বাস্থ্য, চক্ষুসেবা, নিরাপদ রক্ত সংগ্রহ ও সরবরাহ, সহশিক্ষা কার্যক্রম এবং প্রশিক্ষণ কার্যক্রমসহ নানাবিধ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সেবা প্রদান করে আসছে।
