Every cyclone warning, every changing season and every climate challenge reminds coastal communities of Bangladesh about the importance of preparedness. But resilience grows when people have the knowledge, skills and support to act. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), with support from the American Red Cross (AmRC) and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), started Phase 1 in 2017.
Currently the Coastal Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Action (CDRRnCA) program is in its 4th Phase, working in 25 at-risk coastal wards. Launched in April 2025, this 33-month program is being implemented in disaster and climate vulnerable communities across Bagerhat, Khulna and Pirojpur districts. The initiative focuses on strengthening community preparedness, providing anticipatory action, improving early warning and response mechanisms, promoting climate-smart livelihoods, addressing climate-related health challenges and enhancing coordination among communities, volunteers and local governmental institutions.
