As an auxiliary to the Government of Bangladesh and a leading national humanitarian organization, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has been instrumental in serving the most vulnerable populations affected by floods, cyclones, epidemics, and other natural and man-made disasters since its establishment on December 16, 1971. Operating through a network of 68 branches, we deliver comprehensive humanitarian assistance across the nation.
Alongside economic and social challenges in recent years our region has faced a number of natural disasters where BDRCS has a pivotal role in disaster management, working in close coordination with national and local authorities. We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting the most vulnerable through relief distribution, rescue operations, and rehabilitation initiatives. In recent years severe cold spells and heatwaves have inflicted considerable hardship on communities. Furthermore, devastating cyclones, including Rimal, Sitrang, and Fani, have caused extensive damage to life and property in coastal areas. More recently, flash floods in the southeastern regions have resulted in significant destruction. In each instance, BDRCS has acted as a first responder, providing immediate aid to affected populations. Notably, BDRCS has distributed emergency food supplies to displaced, unemployed, and economically vulnerable individuals affected by the prevailing socio-economic instability. Additionally, our trained teams provide essential psychosocial support to those injured in incidents of violence and their families.
BDRCS, an autonomous organization operating in alignment with the Government of Bangladesh, leads in the provision of humanitarian services. All our activities are conducted in strict adherence to the seven Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. We are deeply grateful for the continuous financial and technical support that enables our vital work and especially acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and our Partner National Societies. Their collaboration and shared dedication to humanitarian principles are fundamental to our ability to effectively respond to crises and reach the most vulnerable. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the generous individuals, industrial institutions, banks, corporate entities, and mobile network operators within the country who have contributed to BDRCS. We express our profound gratitude to all our supporters and hope that this collaborative spirit will endure the pursuit of humanitarian service.

বাংলাদেশ সরকারের সহায়ক সংস্থা এবং দেশের অন্যতম শীর্ষস্থানীয় মানবিক সংগঠন হিসেবে, বাংলাদেশ রেড ক্রিসেন্ট সোসাইটি (বিডিআরসিএস) ১৬ ডিসেম্বর ১৯৭১ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠার পর থেকে বন্যা, ঘূর্ণিঝড়, মহামারি এবং অন্যান্য প্রাকৃতিক ও মানবসৃষ্ট দুর্যোগে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত সর্বাধিক ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ মানুষের সেবায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মানবিক ভূমিকা পালন করে আসছে। আমাদের ৬৮টি শাখার মাধ্যমে আমরা দেশজুড়ে মানবিক সহায়তা প্রদান করি।
সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে অর্থনৈতিক ও সামাজিক চ্যালেঞ্জের পাশাপাশি একাধিক প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগের সম্মুখীন হয়েছে বাংলাদেশ। যেখানে দুর্যোগ ব্যবস্থাপনায় বিডিআরসিএস অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করেছে এবং জাতীয় ও স্থানীয় কর্তৃপক্ষের সাথে নিবিড়ভাবে কাজ করেছে। দুর্যোগকালে আমরা ত্রাণ বিতরণ, উদ্ধার কার্যক্রম ও পুনর্বাসনের মাধ্যমে সর্বদা ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ জনগোষ্ঠীর পাশে থাকার অঙ্গীকারে অবিচল। সাম্প্রতিক বছরগুলোতে তীব্র শীত ও তাপদাহ জনজীবনে চরম দুর্ভোগ ডেকে এনেছে। পাশাপাশি উপকূলীয় অঞ্চলে রিমাল, সিত্রাং ও ফণীসহ ভয়াবহ ঘূর্ণিঝড় ব্যাপক জানমাল ও সম্পদের ক্ষতি সাধন করেছে। এছাড়া দক্ষিণ-পূর্বাঞ্চলে আকস্মিক বন্যাও ভয়াবহ ধ্বংসযজ্ঞ সৃষ্টি করেছে। প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রে বিডিআরসিএস প্রথম সাড়াদানকারী হিসেবে কাজ করেছে এবং ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত জনগণের জন্য তাৎক্ষণিক সহায়তা নিশ্চিত করেছে। বিশেষ করে, চলমান সামাজিক ও অর্থনৈতিক অস্থিতিশীলতায় ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত ছিন্নমূল, খেটে খাওয়া ও কর্মহীন মানুষের জনগণের মাঝে জরুরি খাদ্য সহায়তা প্রদান করা হয়েছে। একইসাথে, সহিংস ঘটনায় আহত ব্যক্তি ও তাদের পরিবারের জন্য আমাদের প্রশিক্ষিত টিম মানসিক সহায়তা নিশ্চিত করেছে।
বাংলাদেশ সরকারের নীতি অনুসরণ করে একটি স্বায়ত্তশাসিত সংস্থা হিসেবে বিডিআরসিএস মানবিক সহায়তায় নেতৃত্ব দিয়ে আসছে। আমাদের সকল কার্যক্রম আন্তর্জাতিক রেড ক্রস ও রেড ক্রিসেন্ট আন্দোলনের ৭টি মৌলিক নীতি অনুসরণে পরিচালিত হয়। আমাদের মানবিক কার্যক্রম অব্যাহত রাখতে আর্থিক ও কারিগরি সহায়তার জন্য আমরা আন্তরিকভাবে কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করছি। বিশেষ করে আন্তর্জাতিক রেড ক্রস ও রেড ক্রিসেন্ট ফেডারেশন (IFRC), আন্তর্জাতিক রেড ক্রস কমিটি (ICRC) এবং আমাদের পার্টনার ন্যাশনাল সোসাইটিগুলোর অবদান অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। মানবিক মূল্যবোধের প্রতি তাদের সম্মিলিত প্রতিশ্রুতি আমাদের কার্যক্রম সফলভাবে বাস্তবায়নে সহায়ক ভূমিকা পালন করছে। এছাড়াও দেশের দানশীল ব্যক্তি, শিল্পপ্রতিষ্ঠান, ব্যাংক, কর্পোরেট প্রতিষ্ঠান এবং মোবাইল নেটওয়ার্ক অপারেটরদের অবদানের জন্য আমরা কৃতজ্ঞ। মানবিক সেবার এই যৌথ প্রচেষ্টা অব্যাহত থাকবে বলে আমরা আশাবাদী।
