Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is committed to mandates of the RCRC movement and the existing BDRCS laws to prevent and alleviate human sufferings. In Bangladesh, the national society is a leading health service provider in the country. BDRCS aims to prepare and respond to vulnerable communities for health need to any sort of natural disaster. Health department of BDRCS has more than 500 community volunteers, one third of which are women. They are trained on basic public health in emergency and equipped with first aid kits.
BDRCS has been assisting the existing government health program by providing preventive and curative health care services through its 70 health institutions which include 1 Medical College, 2 General hospitals, 3 Maternity hospitals, 56 Mother and Child Health (MCH) care centers, 1 outdoor clinic, 2 eye hospitals, 5 Midwifery Training Institutes and 2 Diploma Nursing Training Institutes and 1 Nursing College. BDRCS also operates 8 blood banks which contributes 14% of the voluntary blood donation of the whole country.
